1800

This part-Graphic Novel illustrates the historic journey of a community of Black Settlers from America who were part of the first largest exodus of free Blacks from the West to Africa during the late 18th century.

Inspired by actual events, following the American Revolutionary War, their journey, largely from the Chesapeake Bay region and Southern American colonies, is told through historical fiction. Their collective journey to Canada and Sierra Leone led to the founding of one of the longest surviving settlements in Africa for freed Blacks from America and the Caribbean.

With challenges along the way, they remained steadfast in faith and helped foster early foundations of Christian principles wherever they settled. They established some of the first Methodist and Baptist Church missions in West Africa and left lasting legacies for the advancement of education across sub-Saharan Africa.

Runtown

An illustrated critique of movement and migration is presented through the journey of Nathaniel Johnson and his family.

Runtown is a historical fiction that takes place in the mid-1800s, a turning moment in the movement of Africans across the Atlantic and the ushering in of modern-day immigration.

Sierra Leone is thrust into, and plays a prominent role in the abolition of the slave trade by the British in 1807. The slave economy is turned upside down with the abolition of the trade in the West Indies during the late 1820s.

By the 1840s, a new economic paradigm is taking shape. Nathaniel and his family provide a personal glimpse into this transformative period.
